How to Prep and Plan Your Room Design

Design Tips & Trends

A mood board is a great way to visualize how you want your home to look, feel and what would work in the space you’ve got. It allows you to see everything together to really give you a feel for what can be achieved.

In this week’s blog, I’m going to show you how to create your own mood board to make your space somewhere you actually want to spend your time.

How to get started

Once you’ve decided on your style and explored Pinterest for ideas that make your heart sing, you’re ready to do the fun part – create your very own mood board.

Canva is a great to use here to help put your board together. It really works to visualize everything on one page (and it’s free!). You can add links too which is so helpful when it comes to purchasing items.

Picking items for your space

It really helps to focus on the space you want to improve and then use Google search to find images to add to it. Think about all the elements of the room from wall color, to window dressings and furniture. Bringing them together on the board will help you see how things work and save you having to return items because they don’t match.

Don’t be afraid to add and remove things to get it looking how you want. Also consider the dimensions of the room. For example, small spaces usually benefit from a more minimalist feel with lighter shades and good lighting.

Add your paint color

Once you’ve decided on the paint color you want, add it to your mood board. You can add the link to the supplier as well so it’s easy to find and buy it when you’re ready. Having the color in front of you on the board will help you to pick out other items for the space too and make sure they work together

Don’t forget your budget

It’s a good idea to set a budget – consider buying used items like furniture from Facebook Marketplace for example, which could then allow you to spend a little more on luxury items such as bedding or window coverings.
