How to Maximize Your Design Budget

Design Tips & Trends

Let’s face it – we don’t all have the budget to hire a team of contractors who can create the dream space we want (if we even know what that would look like).

But there are plenty of ways to upgrade your space without breaking the bank, and in this week’s blog post I’m sharing the answers to some of the top questions I’m asked about upgrading your space on a budget.

The secret to gradual upgrades

You absolutely don’t need to completely change everything in a room all in one go. If you’re thinking about adding in a new piece or perhaps replacing an existing piece of furniture or decor, the key is to make a plan before you do anything.

Create a vision board for how you’d eventually like your space to look and feel so you can make strategic decisions on what to buy. It’s a vital part of the process and it’ll help you avoid regretting making impulsive decisions.

Getting designer pieces on a budget

Now I love me some Ikea basics, but a high quality, designer piece of furniture can be an investment for years to come. But just because you’re after a designer piece it doesn’t mean you need to pay full price! Keep an eye on the sales and absolutely hit up the outlet centres. You can save 70% on furniture on a good day, which will makes it Target pricing for West Elm quality.

Bedding on a budget

My go-to places for bedding are the sales at West Elm and Pottery Barn for duvets and bedspreads. To save money, buy sheets and accessories from Target. I’ve found that with bedding you do get what you pay for though, so the sales are well worth waiting for.

Saving the best for last….

The number 1 easiest way to create the largest impact on a space is also the simplest…….paint! It’s simple, easy and affordable, and once you know how to cut edges you’re well on your way to creating a completely revamped space.

And at around $25 for a gallon of paint, it’s also one of the most affordable routes to transformation too. Just remember to plan out your space before you pick up your paintbrush.
